MNBlockHead The token buying experience is proving to be a too many choices problem for me and I'm having decision paralysis. For those of you who have bought tokens, do you find the print quality varies based upon background? Has anyone just decided to stick with the dame background for all tokens? If so, what did you choose? Cobblestone, white? #1

David David here. You bring up a good point. If I were just starting out I would actually stick with plain white backgrounds and black borders. If you want to add a bit of variety I would consider using orange borders for boss monsters as that shows up very well. #2

David That said I have seen some REALLY amazing token designs where someone used a different color background for each set of monster. #3

Spencer I actually tried a lot of different options on my first order because I didn't have a sense of how things were going to come out. Now I'm thinking that the solid color background give the images the greatest impact. But it does seem that you have to vary it. Some things look better on a black background and some better on white. The key aesthetically seems to be contrast. Light, especially glowing colorful figures look amazing on black. But if the character has a lot of dark edges, I'd go with white. Using complimentary colors, a bright orange background with a blue figure for example also looks awesome. Using the color band around the image to set up monster distinct groups for quick readability works well too. The shading around the gold edged special tokens with the black background has to be my favorite. And I gather this shading may become an option for all color bands. The cobblestone and other backgrounds look ok, but they don't look good consistently against all the characters. Some get lost in the image. Hope this helps. #4

Spencer What was I thinking putting the Lich on a black background? He has a black tattered cape! I may have overused the black on some of the darker characters like the kobolds. and misc humans. On one inch they don't pop as well as I like and some of the fine details get lost, but when it's a yellow or other light color creature, it looks so pretty. #5

David 2 I saw an order come through the other day where they had white backgrounds and matched the border to main color of the monster. It looked very cool and it will also make it easier to find them in a bag and an on the map. The half inch tokens with patterns have been invaluable as well. #6
